IWC Big Pilot’s Watch 43

Case

A standout feature of the IWC Big Pilot's 43 is still its case, despite being smaller than its predecessor. The Schaffhausen company made a noticeable adjustment, reducing the massive 46 mm case to (as you might have guessed) 43 mm. This change marks a significant moment in the evolution of this beloved design. While the popular Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson easily wears a 46 mm watch, for those of us who are not 195 cm tall and do not weigh over 120 kg, it was a watch that required some adjustment and getting used to. The introduction of the new 43 mm case has been very well received in the market, and the new dimensions have made it more appealing to a wider range of watch enthusiasts, while with a thickness of 13.6 mm it maintains an impressive wrist presence that a potential owner of this watch seeks. The redesigned diamond-shaped crown, an indispensable trademark of this watch, further emphasizes the distinctive pilot design. Another new feature for the IWC Big Pilot 43 is the transparent sapphire crystal case back that reveals the excellent mechanism with exceptional finishing. Dial

The dial redesign is somewhat owed to the new movement. In previous 46 mm models, the dial had a date display and a power reserve indicator, which was a key feature for a watch boasting a seven-day power reserve. In the latest 43 mm models, both of these elements have been removed, creating noticeably more empty space across the dial. Interestingly, this change effectively increases the visibility of the highly legible Arabic numerals that adorn the dial. It is available in a blue sunburst version and a matte black version. 

Movement

The in-house IWC caliber 82100 powers this watch, equipped with the efficient IWC Pellaton automatic winding system. The power reserve is 60 hours, which is more than enough for daily wear as well as for any period of inactivity over the weekend.

Bracelets and straps

IWC has made a very practical move with bracelets and straps. For the first time, the Big Pilot’s comes with a steel bracelet. You also have the option to choose between a leather or rubber strap that fits excellently on the folding clasp. But the real innovation is the new EasX-CHANGE system that allows you to quickly swap straps or bracelets without the need for special tools or a service visit. It is important to emphasize that the use is really simple and does not compromise the comfort of wearing the watch on the wrist nor the security of fastening the straps and bracelets.
